Caleb Stark

"I wanted to build a song machine without boundaries"

Jupiter Bear is the sonic playground of Boston-based artist Caleb Stark. He is a songwriter-producer with a vivid imagination and a deep love for psychedelic music. While Caleb is known for his work as a keyboard player around the East Coast (such as in the Virginia-based Phish tribute, Lawn Boys), Jupiter Bear is his most personal artistic endeavor—where he has complete creative freedom to explore colorful, surreal, and emotionally rich soundscapes.

Blending influences from psychedelic pioneers like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and The Doors with modern innovators such as Tame Impala, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, and Björk, Jupiter Bear is an ever-evolving experiment in sound. He writes all the music and lyrics, sings, plays keyboards, programs synths and drums, and records guitar and bass, often collaborating with select musicians, including drummer Jacob Friedman.

Jupiter Bear thrives on duality—juxtaposing light and dark, simplicity and complexity, chaos and melody. Songs range from upbeat, groove-driven tracks to abstract, ambient explorations, with themes spanning love, anxiety, nostalgia, and surreal storytelling. He embraces unconventional song structures, sometimes crafting hypnotic single-phrase hooks or layering intricate harmonies over kaleidoscopic instrumentation.

The project’s debut single, “Bones,” released on March 21, 2025. Inspired by social anxiety and the struggle of romantic attraction. The song blends whimsical imagery with deeply relatable emotions. The instrumental palette is lush and haunting, featuring heavily delayed guitars and a purring mellotron. With all instruments performed by Caleb (except drums by Jacob Friedman), “Bones” was mixed by Nashville engineer Chris Utley and mastered by Tony Terrebonne.
